George Side Stories

George stared at the object in confusion. What the heck is that? He thought as his eyebrows knitted together. Dr. Fabrohn’s assistant had never seen anything like it; what was that lunatic up to?
George was staring at a machine and a rather odd one at that. It had two boards for the base, each crossing the other forming a cross. A pole extended from the middle of the cross, with a see-through hexagon attached on one side. A long rod stretched out from the center of the hexagon, seeming to be pointing towards space. A thin yet sturdy wire loosely twisted along the rod, as if the machine needed lots of power for its duty.
The assistant stood there, contemplating the decoration – or was it a weapon? His eyes widened in fear at the thought of his professor using something so violent looking; well, George believed everything Dr. Fabrohn created was used for destruction.
When George started to notice the weapon resembled a mosquito, his boss waltzed out of a small building, looking very pleased with himself. He then noticed his assistant daydreaming, causing his happy mood to vanish quicker than a blink.
“I say, what do you think you’re doing?” Dr. Fabrohn barked as he marched over to his timid assistant, “Are you messing with Moss Keeto 2000?”
George turned to the doctor, flinching under his penetrating glare as he whimpered, “Nothing, sir. I was doing nothing.”
“Good.” Dr. Fabrohn’s face instantly morphed into a state of tranquility as he approached his genius creation. “Now it’s time to try out this bad boy!” The doctor threw back his head and bellowed a high, piercing laugh, causing a shiver to fly down George’s spine.
Dr. Fabrohn went around the machine, behind the hexagon. Grabbing hold of two metal handles, the professor smirked as he thought of what he was about to do. It was a combination of doing a test run and scaring the socks off his jumpy assistant. It always gave the doctor great pleasure to see George’s terrified face when he was being punished for absolutely nothing.
The professor flicked a switch on the right side of the weapon and took his stance. Aiming for a blue jay, Dr. Fabrohn clicked the button on his left handle and an electric blue ray of light shot out and hit the poor bird in the chest. To the horror of George, the blue jay disappeared in a cloud of gray smoke. George inched closer, scared of what he would find. As the smoke dissipated, the assistant gasped in shock.
The blue jay had turned into a plate of waffles.

“Professor! What have you done?” George cried in distress as he observed Dr. Fabrohn’s latest experiment. A mare and its calf were discussing the weather in French, the mother scolding the little one as it complained. “Dr. Fabrohn?” the assistant called out as he looked around worriedly for the doctor. After several minutes of searching, George found the scientist sitting cross-legged on the sidewalk, speaking to ants as they came his way.
“Now you don’t come near me, yah hear?” Dr. Fabrohn threatened as a black ant neared his shoes. “I might have to squash you into tiny bits!” the doctor continued, glaring at the ant in disgust. The ant realized it was in danger and skittered away into the grass.

Horse Poem

Distressed once more
George cried in agony
Two horses were discussing the weather
In French of all things!
George looked around, not seeing the doctor
Then at last he was found on a sidewalk
The crazy fool was threatening ants
Glaring like he had laser vision
The ant knew better
It skittered away
George sighed in frustration
For it was not an easy task
To babysit a mad scientist
